ORAU: Collaborative Research and Funding Opportunities
Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) is a not-for-profit government contractor and university consortium that provides its customers innovative scientific and technical solutions to:
- advance science, education and workforce development;
- strengthen national security; and
- protect health and the environment.
ORAU has a number of funding programs and mechanisms that may be of interest to faculty whose research expertise overlaps with ORAU’s core capabilities:
- national security
- emergency preparedness
- environmental assessment
- worker and public health
- data analytics
Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards
The Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards provide seed money for research by junior faculty at ORAU member institutions. These awards are intended to enrich the research and professional growth of young faculty and result in new funding opportunities. Applications are due in January, reviewed in February/March, and awards are announced in late April each year.

Homeland Defense and Security Information Analysis Center
The Homeland Defense and Security Information Analysis Center (HDIAC) is a Department of Defense (DoD) sponsored organization through the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC). HDIAC utilizes expertise and knowledge from government agencies, research institutions, laboratories, industry and academia on topics relevant to the DoD and other government entities to solve the government’s toughest scientific and technical problems. HDIAC focus areas include alternative energy, biometrics, CBRN defense, critical infrastructure protection, cultural studies, homeland defense and security, medical, and WMD.
